65th Anniversary — Battle of The Atlantic

Today across the country there were ceremonies marking the sacrifices and accomplishments of Canada and our allies during the Battle of the Atlantic. The naval, merchant marine, and air force and army personnel who were lost and who served from 1939 to 1945 in the North Atlantic were remembered.

In Ottawa the ceremony took place at the War Memorial. The banners flying in the area are in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy. It was unusually hot and humid here today, with the humidex reaching 30°C — it took a particular toll on those standing throughout the ceremony.

Emma was part of the Ottawa Children's Chorus that sang the hymns at the ceremony beautifully. Here she is with one of the flagbearers in the first picture:

I am eternally grateful to all those gentlepeople who fought and survived and left many friends and comrades behind in the names of freedom and liberty.

Very well said, Al!

Mine too Jenny. But the photos of the vets I felt were important to share.
